The main structure of a car muffler

Automobile mufflers can be classified into three types based on their noise reduction principles and structures: reactive mufflers, resistive mufflers, and reactive-resistive composite mufflers.

1. Reactive mufflers: Reactive mufflers are designed with expansion chambers, resonance chambers, and other components inside the muffler. When sound waves travel through these chambers, they undergo reflection and interference, reducing the sound energy and achieving noise reduction. Reactive mufflers have a limited noise reduction frequency range and are typically effective at low and medium frequencies but less effective at high frequencies. They are commonly used in trucks.

2. Resistive mufflers: Resistive mufflers are designed with sound-absorbing materials surrounding the exhaust pipes inside the muffler to absorb sound energy and achieve noise reduction. They are effective at medium and high frequencies but are rarely used alone as automotive exhaust mufflers. Instead, they are often combined with reactive mufflers. -
3. The impedance composite muffler is a muffler composed of a resistive muffling unit and sound-absorbing materials. It combines the common features of resistive and reactive mufflers and has excellent muffling effects on low, medium and high-frequency noises.
